Documentary and short-form video for organic social
The Sierra Club Atlantic Chapter brought be on to produce and direct a grant-funded, short documentary looking at the impacts of sewage sludge spreading in NYS. Like many non-profit jobs, I wore many proverbial hats. My responsibilities extended from initial research, storyboarding and shot list, pre-interviews, interviews, filming, editing, budget management, and coordinating with a team of Sierra Club staff and volunteers. It was a true practice in project management and a welcome challenge that empowered me.
The documentary is a 13-minute film looking at the impacts of the land application of sewage sludge. The pre-production phase included research and consultation with area experts, pre-interviews with those highlighted in the film, scheduling, equipment rentals, storyboarding, and developing a production schedule. The production phase included filming anything included in the film. And the post-production phase included editing, revisions, photo and footage licensing, and the development of accompanying organic social media—which were eventually shared in collaboration with large partner organizations and Mark Ruffalo.
